At PCSS, we have a variety of very rewarding Volunteer positions available to members of the public who are willing to donate a minimal amount of time (1 - 3 hours weekly). The positions are either short or long term and are based on interests and needs - both of the Volunteer and the people we support.
We offer the necessary training and American Sign Language classes to those Volunteers who are willing to donate more than 8 months of service to our agency!
Companion
A Companion is a Volunteer who is paired up with an individual (who receives support services from our agency), based on shared interests. Volunteer Companions spend time with people participating in activities and events in and around the community. The Volunteer Co-ordinator and supervisory staff work with the individual and Companion to develop a schedule of activities that suits the needs of both people. The Companion position is highly rewarding in that it allows people to develop relationships outside of their regular peer group while sharing activities that they both enjoy.
The following Companion Positions are currently available;
- Recreation Companion

their time with another female who enjoys outings for coffee, walking,
playing pool, swimming, and other recreation type activities.
- Time required - 1 - 3 hours weekly - weekends or anytime
after 3 pm on weekdays.
- Literacy/Recreation Companion

about horses. Involves reading horse magazines, puzzles, games sharing
horse stories and some visits to horse farms (if possible).

Short Term Volunteer Positions
A Short Term Volunteer is a person willing to donate their time for a set period (between 1 and 4 months). There are a number of topics and skills that are of interest to the people receiving our support services, that fall outside of our regular staff training. Also we (like other non-profit organizations) are constantly looking for new ideas to improve our services, be it through fundraising, organizing social events for our clients or larger community events promoting awareness. There are opportunities galore for anyone interested in helping us either with the organization of these events or with the event itself. The following Short Term Volunteer placements are available;
- Teaching
- Do you have a skill, hobby or interest that you would
like to share? We support a number of people who want to learn more
about the people, places and things around them. The commitment is 1
- 2 hours weekly for a period of 2 - 4 months. Currently we require
people who can teach; basic Internet safety and computer maintenance,
cooking (either domestic or exotic) and sewing.
